I manually uninstalled that patch as soon as it was installed (even before restarting to complete the initial installation). YES! Why would they make those changes? It feels like this game was made by a completely different team, and not the main RE one.

As some have already suggested, try avoiding SK and using something like RTSS or making modifications at the driver level (through Nvidia Control Panel or the AMD equivalent). That sound is from Special K - it plays the MGS alert sound whenever SK is running in the background and the game it's hooked to crashes. It goes away once you get to the main menu, but it's kind of scary, lol. Oh, and during the initial load, when the company logos appear, there's some severe hitching, to the point where it looks like the game is constantly freezing/crashing. My system's a 3900X, 3090 with 32GB of RAM, with games installed to a 970 Evo NVMe SSD. I've also noticed terrible aliasing, which no combination of TAA or FXAA was able to fix (I usually avoid FXAA, but tried just to see if it would help). Now that I'm able to start the game, I still haven't completed the prologue, as the game keeps freezing, entirely at random (the process keeps running and I can still hear the audio as if nothing happened, which is odd). Nope, had to download the latest basic K-Lite pack and run that before even being able to open the game (it would run and even count time towards Steam's playtime, with the executable running in the background, but the game wouldn't start).

I marked the checkbox with "Agree" and exited it, assuming the codec would install automatically. Not sure if this is another victim of Covid, or if Capcom messed up the RE Engine on PC after introducing RT to it (it's the first title on that platform to offer the feature), but the performance of Village is nowhere near RE2 and 3, both of which ran beautifully.Ī sign of bad things to come was when I tried starting the game for the first time and a pop-up appeared saying that I needed to install a video codec.
